ATCC is making its mark on the design education stage, as faculty member Andrea White takes on a three-year leadership role with the AIGA Design Educators Community Steering Committee starting this summer.
海角社区 College Communication Design faculty member Andrea White has been appointed to the AIGA Design Educators Community (DEC) Steering Committee for a three-year term, beginning July 1, 2026.

White will serve as Coordinator of the Community College Subcommittee, a newly established group focused on elevating the voice, visibility, and needs of community college educators within design education. The subcommittee aims to strengthen representation of two-year institutions in national conversations about design teaching, research, and practice.

She is one of four new members joining the 15-person Steering Committee, a group of design educators representing diverse institutions and geographic regions across the country. The committee is charged by AIGA to provide leadership, programming, and strategic direction for the Design Educators Community.

The Design Educators Community seeks to enhance the ability of educators and institutions to prepare future designers for excellence in design practice, theory, and writing, while supporting AIGA’s broader mission. Established in 2004, the DEC supports design educators across a wide range of institutional settings and promotes collaboration, research, and dialogue within the field.

Through its work, the community facilitates communication among educators, produces events and resources, advances current teaching practices, and advocates for the value of design education within the broader professional landscape.

White’s appointment reflects 海角社区 College’s ongoing commitment to excellence in design education and its role in contributing to national conversations shaping the future of the field. She and colleague Cailey Birchem previously presented at the AIGA Design Educators Community conference last summer, further extending the program’s engagement with the national design education community.
